  • Leakage current is the current that flows from either AC or DC circuit in equipment to the chassis, or to the ground, and can be either from the input or the output. If the equipment is not properly grounded, the current flows through other paths such as the human body.
    - Leakage Clamp meters appear to be conventional clamp ammeters. But they are designed for very unique purpose, Fault-Finding.
    - However, the special construction of the clamp shielding, allows us to measure tiny out-of-balance currents between any conductors enclosed within the transformer jaws.
    - These instruments are so sensitive that can measure from few micro A up to 1000A.
    - Clamping all the conductors after an RCD, the instrument will read the leakage current.
    The largest application areas for Leakage clamps are with electrical contractors and maintenance professionals.

  • RCD is a switching device designed for breaking current (Opening the contacts), when the residual current attains a specific given value. It works on basis of a current difference between phase current flowing to different loads and returning current flowing through neutral conductor.
  • In case the current difference is higher than RCD tripping current, the device will trip disconnecting the mains voltage.
  • RCD tester is an instrument that generates a controlled leakage current in order to test (to trip) an RCD and measure its tripping time.
    A loop tester is an instrument that can carry out the loop impedance measurement necessary to verify the efficiency of the protection by current breakers or fuses in case of faults or short circuits in electrical installations.
